A foreign-owned company in Indonesia can generally conduct multiple business activities through one PT PMA. Each activity must be properly registered and licensed, while some combinations may be restricted by sector-specific or foreign investment requirements.
How Multiple Business Activities Work Under KBLI 2025
Each activity conducted by a PT PMA must be classified under the appropriate Indonesian Standard Industrial Classification (KBLI) code. A company can register multiple KBLI codes where the activities are allowed to operate through the same company.

The registered KBLI codes identify the company’s business activities and form the basis for determining the licensing requirements that apply to them. A manufacturer that also intends to conduct distribution, for example, may need a separate KBLI for the distribution activity and must satisfy the requirements attached to it.
Registering several KBLI codes under one company does not mean the activities share the same licensing requirements.
When Multiple Activities Can Operate Under One PT PMA
Related activities can often operate through the same PT PMA where each activity is allowed under the company’s existing ownership structure and no sector-specific rule prevents their combination.
The activities do not have to carry identical licensing requirements. One KBLI may require relatively limited OSS licensing, while another activity within the same company may require additional authorization before it can begin operating.
When Business Activities Cannot Simply Be Combined
Some activities are subject to sector rules that limit what the company is allowed to do. This can arise in regulated areas such as financial services, telecommunications, transport, and healthcare, depending on the specific activity involved.
Foreign investment conditions can also differ between activities. An ownership structure that is permitted for one KBLI cannot automatically be assumed to satisfy the conditions applicable to another.
Adding Another Business Activity to an Existing PT PMA
Adding an activity starts with identifying the appropriate KBLI 2025 classification and determining whether the existing PT PMA can conduct it under its current ownership and business structure.
The company’s corporate documents may need to be amended if its stated purposes and activities do not already cover the new business. The company must then update the relevant information in OSS.

The new activity cannot begin merely because the PT PMA already has a Business Identification Number (NIB) and licenses for its existing operations. Any licensing requirements attached to the additional activity must also be satisfied before operations begin where those approvals are required.
Holding Multiple Licenses Does Not Mean One PT PMA Is the Right Structure
Being able to license several activities within one PT PMA does not determine whether keeping them in one company is the right commercial structure. If that question arises, the investor should assess whether to use the existing PT PMA or establish a separate company.
